2008 compilation from one of Brazil's favorite sons: pianist/composer/producer Joao Donato, one of the key figures in the early development of Bossa Nova and among the earliest to move to the U.S. and collaborate with U.S.-based Jazz and Latin greats, in addition to his own releases, which he took to the next level upon returning to Brazil in the early 70's. Quem e Quem (1973), produced by Marcos Valle, and Lugar Comum (1975), a collaboration with Gilberto Gil, are among the crown jewels of MPB and best Pop/Funk albums of the '70s, adding more Donato tunes to the standards repertoire. Donato also produced many albums by other Brazilian greats, always elevating the sessions with his unique combination of blissful/tuneful harmonies and hypnotic rhythms.
