Bangles Sweetheart of the Sun CD (2011)
Waterfront CDs The second album to spring from the Bangles' 21st century reunion, Sweetheart of the Sun finds the band working without Michael Steele, who left the lineup soon after Doll Revolution's 2003 release and is replaced here by Derrick Anderson. The lineup may be different, but the band's sound is the same, with Susanna Hoffs and the Petersen sisters continuing to harmonize their way through a mix of power pop, adult contemporary, and sun-kissed rock & roll. ~ Andrew Leahey
Audio Mixer: Jim Scott .
Recording information: Lolina Green Studios.
Photographers: Rebecca Wilson; Claire Thomas.

Al Jardine Postcard from California CD (2011)
Waterfront CDs The first solo album from the Beach Boys' Al Jardine is laid-back and sunny, with an L.A. studio sound that could've come straight from the early '70s instead of the early 2010s. A Postcard from California blends new material with a few choice Beach Boys nuggets ("Help Me Rhonda," his own "California Saga"), and includes help from a long list of contributors -- virtually every past and present Beach Boy (aside from Dennis Wilson), plus a bevy of stars: Neil Young, David Crosby, Glen Campbell, Flea, John Stamos, and Alec Baldwin. The album has a similar sense of wonder as Brian Wilson's solo material, bolstered by Jardine's slightly deeper and stronger vocals. ~ John Bush
Audio Mixer: Jeff Peters.
Liner Note Author: Al Jardine.
Recording information: Cove City Sound, Long Island, NY; Merv Griffin's Resorts, Atlantic City, NJ; Red Barn Studios, Bug Sur, CA; Smoke & Mirrors Audio, San Francisco, CA; The Pie ...

Waterfront music Take the title of John Waite's tenth solo album to heart: it does indeed sound Rough & Tumble, rocking harder than he has through most of his solo career. Certainly, there are some slower and soulful moments -- arriving fairly quickly in the album, too -- but there's grit ...
