| Brainwasher CD (2000)
$11.79 BRAINWASHER is the 2000 release by twangin' Americana stars, Bare Jr., and features 14 tracks, "Brainwasher," "You Blew Me Off," "Kiss Me (Or I Will Cry)," and "Why Do I Need A Job."
A composed excursion into rock & roll's restless rhythms, Bare Jr.'s Brainwasher, the band's second full-length, unveiled some traditional alternative pop/rock style approaches while remaining surprisingly in the midst of country inspirations. Nashville's Bare Jr. is headed by Bobby Bare, Jr., a descendant of the celebrated '70s country star. They seem like they are adept at creating this kind of country-rock-inspired style. Bare's roots within rock's most classic tunes are also shown through all of the album's tracks, such as "God" and "Kiss Me." While "God" rounds out the moodiness of the country sound, "Kiss Me" clanks around what could be easily figured as a punk-inspired tune. From the jumpy flows of "If You Choose Me" to the lowering noisy presentation of "Why Do I Need a Job," the band composed a set sounding like a whole unit in spite of all the hybrid interpretations. ~ Mario Mesquita Borges

| Artist appears on Cruel Intentions CD (1999) Original Soundtrack
$11.15 If there's a complaint about the soundtrack to Cruel Intentions, the trashy teen adaptation of Les Liaisons Dangerous, it's that the music isn't as shamelessly enjoyable as the film. As a matter of fact, much of this takes itself too seriously, from Placebo's opening cut, "Every You, Every Me," to Counting Crows' "Colorblind," neither of which really fit the feeling of the movie. That said, there's enough strong moments -- particularly Fatboy Slim's "Praise You," Aimee Mann's "You Could Make a Killing," Blur's "Coffee and TV," and the Verve's instant-classic "Bittersweet Symphony" -- to make it listenable, even with the preponderance of half-baked tunes and throwaways that clutter the record, just ...
