| Dorrough Music CD (2009)
$14.29 Compare it to the rock-solid, instant party starters "Ice Cream Paint Job" or "Walk That Walk" and the difference in quality control is clear, but Dorrough stands behind all his material, and to his credit, delivers everything with all the hunger you'd expect from someone gunning for Slim Thug or Paul Wall's job. Clearly bitten by the music bug, it's obvious that the up-and-coming rap star is no slouch when it comes to beats and rhymes, as evidenced by his debut full-length for Koch Records, DORROUGH MUSIC. Dorrough Music feels rushed when half-baked anthems like "Flashout" come around with their flashy hooks and flimsy ideas. Lyrics are influenced by Wall's so-dumb-it's-fun-style with "I wouldn't spend a dollar on her at a Dollar Tree" being your average punch line. Plying his laidback, drawl over infectious, club-tuned beats in the Southern rap style, the album features two huge regional hits, the raunchy "Ice Cream Paint Job," and the even-more-raunchy "Walk That Walk." Not exactly family-friendly fodder but perfect for the adult club rap set. On his debut full-length, Dallas-based Dorrough comes off as more than a ringtone rapper, but his transition from the singles club to the league of album artists gets off on a rocky start. The overnight success of Dallas-born rapper Dorrough is all the more surprising when you consider his initial career track as a basketball player at Prairie View A&M University in Texas.

 Dorrough Biography
With a gritty voice, a knack for snazzy catch phrases, and strut to spare, Artist (aka Artist Music) made his way onto the Billboard rap and pop charts while he was still a student at Prairie View A&M. The slack-voiced MC worked the internet savvily in the final years of the '00s to build a buzz around his club-ready singles, already budding hits in Dallas and the surrounding area. His offbeat yet accessible poetry about provocative girls ("Walk That Walk"), pimping his ride ("Ice Cream Paint Job"), and other universal hip-hop topics struck a chord with web denizens, and by 2009 Artist was a rap radio regular.
