A distorted guitar howls and feeds back. Scratchy turntable sound effects give way to a rock guitar riff. These elements in the opening "Pedal to the Steel" are evidence that Youngstown is not your typical "boy band." The Ohio trio, who took its name from the hometown of founding members James Dallas and David Yeager, imbues tireless vocal harmonies that dance over poppy R&B in the group's debut, LET'S ROLL.
"Whenever You Need Me" and "Angel" make crafty use of mid-tempo grooves and singable choruses. "Through Your Eyes" shows a subtle Prince influence and incorporates a spoken breakdown that harkens to classic Motown. The pulsing bass line and tasteful guitar and strings drive "Lose My Cool." In "Jamie Lee," a son gives a tender tribute to my mother. The protagonist in "Early Frost" hangs on to the hope that the one he loves might still have feelings for him.
